How to get a Zillow API key
The free ZWSID key stopped working in 2021. Zillow's data now goes through a Bridge Interactive application that takes at least 10 business days. If you need Zillow listing data and Zestimates for a link or an address, a PropertiesAPI key has no application review: join the waitlist, and keys go out by email as we open accounts.
What happened to the ZWSID
- 2006
Zillow opens its API and gives its content to other websites free of charge. Developers sign up for a ZWSID key and call GetSearchResults, GetZestimate and the rest.
- February 2021
Developers report the old API returning 410 (Gone) errors to existing ZWSID keys.
- 30 September 2021
The legacy Zillow Web Services API (ZWSID, GetDeepSearchResults and friends) is retired.
- Today
Zillow's data APIs (Zestimate, Public Records, MLS listings) run through Bridge Interactive. You apply, and Zillow decides.

Getting Zillow data through Bridge Interactive
Zillow's Zestimate, Public Records and listings APIs all run through Bridge Interactive.
- Apply for access through Bridge Interactive and describe your use case.
- Answer whether your service is paid, whether you'll store the data, and whether you'll combine Zillow data into a "derivative work". The form warns: "Your use case will be denied if we don't have answers to the previous questions."
- Wait. Zillow asks you to "allow at least 10+ business days for us to determine your eligibility". The Public Records API is "currently invite only", and MLS listings need each MLS's approval.
- If approved, accept the Zillow API Terms of Use and build within its rate limits: 5,000 requests an hour (burst 334 a minute), and 1,000 requests a day by default for Public Records.
What the terms say once you're in
- No storing
- You may not "store, cache, or download any Data, except as provided" (§5.18).
- No competing products
- You may not "create a product or service that competes with Zillow" (§5.14).
- No direct marketing or credit decisions
- §5.7 and §5.3.
- No apps without written permission
- §5.6.
- Zestimate display rules
- A Zillow logo and link next to every value, the label "Zestimate® home valuation", and no combining with third-party data (§26).
- Owner data for internal use only
- Owner names and mortgage data can't be shown to end users (§28.1).

Can I still get a ZWSID?+
No. The ZWSID was the key for Zillow's legacy API, which started returning errors in February 2021 and was retired on 30 September 2021. Old ZWSID keys and the libraries built on them no longer work.
How do I get a Zillow API key now?+
Apply through Bridge Interactive. You'll be asked whether your app is paid, whether you'll store the data and whether you'll combine it with other data, and Zillow asks you to allow at least 10 business days for a decision.
Is a Zillow API key free?+
Zillow doesn't publish a price for Bridge access. Third-party blogs cite about $500 a month without a source, and Zillapi says it's free if you qualify. Our key comes with 50 free lookups, no card. Paid plans start from $29 a month.
Can I use a Zillow API key in a commercial app?+
Only within the terms: no storing or caching the data, no competing product, no direct marketing, and no apps without Zillow's written permission. Read them before you build.
Is a PropertiesAPI key a Zillow API key?+
No. PropertiesAPI is an independent service and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Zillow. It returns what the public Zillow page shows for a property, provided as-is, with no guarantee of accuracy or completeness.
How fast is a PropertiesAPI key?+
There's no application review, and the free plan doesn't need a card. Keys go out to the waitlist by email as we open accounts. A live lookup then takes typically 8 seconds, up to about 20, because it fetches the Zillow page; repeat lookups of the same home within 24 hours come from cache, free.
