Zillow API response fields
A reference page for each field in a property response: what it means, a recorded example, when it comes back null, how to read it in code and the mistakes to avoid.
Every lookup returns { data, meta }. data is the property with camelCase fields read from the home's public Zillow page, plus data.calculated, a few figures PropertiesAPI works out from those same fields. A field the page doesn't show comes back as null, and lists come back empty; never read null as zero. The full table is on the property endpoint page.
Property identity
- zpid and detailUrl: zpid is the Zillow property ID of the home you looked up, and detailUrl is the link to its Zillow page.
- Address fields: Every response carries the property's address twice: once as a single line in address, and once split into street, unit, city, state, ZIP code, county and neighborhood, so you can display it or store it in columns without parsing.
- latitude and longitude: latitude and longitude are the property's map position in decimal degrees, as Zillow places the pin on the home's page.
Listing and price
- price and currency: price is the number at the top of a Zillow listing: the asking price for a home for sale, the monthly rent for a rental, or the sale price for a sold home.
- homeStatus and statusText: homeStatus is Zillow's status code for the home, and statusText is a short readable label built from that code and the listing's flags.
- daysOnZillow, datePosted and days on market: daysOnZillow is Zillow's day count for the home's page, datePosted is the date the listing was posted, and calculated.days_on_market is that same day count kept only while the home is actually listed.
- monthlyHoaFee: monthlyHoaFee is the homeowners association fee per month as shown on the home's Zillow page, in US dollars.
Zillow estimates
- zestimate: zestimate is Zillow's Zestimate for the home: Zillow's own estimate of its market value, returned exactly as the home's Zillow page shows it at the time of the lookup.
- rentZestimate: rentZestimate is Zillow's Rent Zestimate: Zillow's estimate of the monthly rent the home could get, as the home's page shows it.
History
- priceHistory: priceHistory is the list of past events on the home's Zillow page: listings, price changes, pending sales, removals and sales, each with a date and a price.
- taxHistory: taxHistory lists the home's property tax record year by year: the tax paid, the assessed value and how each changed from the year before.
- Last sale: dateSold, lastSoldPrice and calculated last sale: Four fields answer when the home last sold and for how much: Zillow's own dateSold and lastSoldPrice, and the last sale that PropertiesAPI reads from priceHistory in data.calculated.
Tax
- Property tax: taxAnnualAmount, taxAssessedValue, propertyTaxRate, parcelId: Four fields summarise the home's property tax: the yearly tax amount, the assessed value, the tax rate as a percent, and the county parcel number.
Home facts
- beds and baths: beds is the number of bedrooms and baths the number of bathrooms, as the home's Zillow page lists them.
- livingArea and lotSize: livingArea is the home's interior living area and lotSize is the size of its lot, both in square feet.
- homeType and yearBuilt: homeType is Zillow's property type code, and yearBuilt the year the home was built, as the listing states it.
- schools: schools lists the nearby schools that the home's Zillow page shows, each with a rating, a distance in miles, the grades it teaches and a link.
Media and text
- photos, imgSrc, photoCount and virtualTourUrl: photos is the list of the listing's image URLs, imgSrc the main photo, photoCount how many photos there are, and virtualTourUrl a link to a virtual tour when the listing has one.
- description: description is the listing's text: the remarks the agent or landlord wrote about the home, as Zillow publishes them.
Listing contacts
- Listing agent, broker and MLS: These fields name who listed the home: the listing agent and their phone and licence number, the brokerage and its phone, and the MLS listing number and MLS name shown on the page.
Engagement and freshness
- pageViewCount and favoriteCount: pageViewCount is how many times the home's Zillow page has been viewed and favoriteCount how many people saved it, as the listing shows them.
- scrapedAt and data freshness: scrapedAt is the moment the home's Zillow page was read, as an ISO timestamp in UTC.
Calculated by PropertiesAPI
- Price per square foot: There are three price per square foot figures in a response: Zillow's own pricePerSquareFoot, and two that PropertiesAPI calculates from the returned price, Zestimate and living area.
- Rent-to-price ratio and gross yield: These calculated fields compare a year of rent with the home's value: the rent-to-price ratio, which value it used, and the same ratio as a gross yield percent.
- Price vs Zestimate: price_vs_zestimate_pct says how far the home's price is above or below its Zestimate, as a percent of the Zestimate.
- Price drops and the last price change: price_drops_count counts the price cuts in the home's current listing, and last_price_change describes the most recent price change in that listing, up or down.
How to read these pages
Examples are copied from recorded lookups of real Zillow pages, with the other fields left out. They show the shape and the kind of values to expect, not current data. Field names and types match the OpenAPI spec at /openapi.json.
Zillow's estimates, the Zestimate and the Rent Zestimate, are returned as Zillow shows them. PropertiesAPI doesn't make estimates of its own; the calculated fields are plain arithmetic on the returned values.
